It's whether you have positive or negative blood type. If the mom has a positive blood type then it's easy, and you don't ever have to think about it again in terms of pregnancy. If mom has negative blood type then precautions need to be taken during and after the pregnancy to ensure that she does not build up antibodies to the positive blood her baby might have...and cause problems with any future pregnancies.

What Is Rh Factor?
Rh factor is a protein that we inherit which can be found on the surface of our red blood cells. Blood is either Rh positive or Rh negative. If your body produces the Rh factor, your blood is Rh positive. If your blood does not have the Rh factor, you are Rh negative. About 15% of the population has Rh negative blood. The Rh factor is tested for early in pregnancy as part of routine blood testing. It is noted on your prenatal record if you are Rh negative or positive.

RH is the short of Rhesus. It's a substance contained in blood, what exactly I don't know. I didn't study this specifically. RH has 2 attributes, either you got RH in your blood (RH+) or you don't got it (RH-). Thus we hear a lot people in the hospital or doctor saying something like 'his blood is B+' or 'we need AB- here'. RH+ and RH- bloods don't mix, and if you insist on transfusing differrent attributes of RH blood, you can get the patient into trouble i.e. blood problem (of course)

The RH factor is the postive or negative after your blood type.

you will have a certain blood type (be it A+ or whatever) and you will have cells that carry the RH factor on it which will be a problem if your positive and your partner is negative or vise versa if you become pregnant..but they have meds that you would need to take if so...it is not the positive or negative after your blood type you can be positive or negative and still have it

If I remember right, it is where the blood of the baby and mother are different and the mother's body starts rejecting the pregnancy. You have to have constant medical care with this medical problem. Take care
