It will just take time. A bruise is an accumulation of blood that results from ruptured blood vessels, and it just takes time for the body to absorb it. Sometimes applying cold (ice pack) can help. Don't apply heat as it could make it worse.

I'm not sure this will work for bruises, but putting an ice-pack on the area right AFTER the injury (20 min. intervals, for 24 hrs), will reduce bruising and the cold reduces swelling. Another thing I've used on a surgical incision (my sister is WAY into herbal remedies) is a poultice made of comfrey leaves (you can get them at most health food stores). You soak them in water and apply directly the the skin. Comfrey is supposed to have healing qualities. Try it and see!
Check out the site below for more info on bruise treatment AND prevention. They list many foods you can eat to help reduce bruising (like dark, leafy veg's).
Or...you can always just cover it 'til it's gone!

Apply heat to the area several times daily....heating pad, hot water bottle, etc. Gentle massage will help a little. What has happened is that a number of small blood vessels have ruptured...broken...and the bruise is the escaped blood cells. Medications are worthless at this time as it takes a long time for them to penetrate into the tissue. Heat increases the flow of blood into the area. Remember to make sure the heating pad or hot water bottle are wrapped in a towel to prevent burns...(if you don't have a hot water bottle or heating pad....use an empty soda bottle and fill it with hot water.) Long hot baths are good too. Applying Vitamin E or other medication is virtually useless.

Vitamin C with bioflavinoids, grapeseed extract 60-100 mg daily, pycnogenol, gotu kola, and green tea all are helpful in resolving this kind of injury. Warm compresses (after the swelling has subsided) may also help.

hot and cold compresses (fomentation). Use thick towels soaked in hot and cold water or those commercial gel packs that can be chilled and or heated. 20 minutes of hot and then 20 minutes of cold. The bruise will come to the surface quicker and then dissapear.

Vitamin K cream - it's also used for spider veins. I use it because I keep hitting the frame of my bed.

if you use ice for 20min then heat for 20min. it will allow the capillaries to dialate and contract acting like another heart to flow the old blood threw your system
