How can I find out my family medical history?

My mother was adopted, I have had breast cancer, skin cancer and she still refuses to let me dig into my maternal medical history. Is there any place that could help me...I don't even know what her birth parents name was.

That could be an almost impossible task, with the new HIPPA regulations nobody can tell anybody anything making this very hard. I recommend contacting an adoption agency and see what they suggest on where to start. Good luck.
