Whether the fluorescent fixture will work or not depends on if it is designed to work with a dimmer. Your best bet is to ask at a local company that specializes in lighting fixtures. Most home centers have fluorescent fixtures but it is doubtful that they will stock the special ones that work with dimmer switches.

No, If you want to dim a fluorescent lamp(s) you need to buy a fluorescent dimmer. Go to an electrical suppy store and see what's available . The dimmers tend to be expensive.

Read the instructions on the package. We have a dimmer switch in our dining Room, and will not put one of the curly flouresent bulbs in as it is not recommended.
