I just heard something on the radio that made me think.

I have been a die hard Tiger fan since 1976, and although I was happy to see people jump on the bandwagon, I couldn't call them real fans. I guess I never thought about the fact that younger Tiger fans never got to see the Tigers when they were a great team and therefore really never had a team to fall in love with.

Could this start a new generation of Tigers fans or are they really just bandwagon fans for this year?

This happens in every city when a team goes to the playoffs for the first time in several years. But do not look down on it, you need something to get the fans going, and as long as you have the best manager in baseball as your manager, you will probably get back to the playoffs for the next few years. Every city will have fans jumping on and off the bandwagon, but take it from me, enjoy it, it is fun while it lasts.
This coming from a Cardinal fan who is still fuming from the Tigers beating the Cardinals in the 1968 World Series after being down 3 games to 1.

I agree totally. I was like that with the Wings. Everyone was putting down Vernon and I was a HUGE vernon fan. Of course when he started to play really well and they wone the cup all of a sudden everyoe was a fan. I hope this will bring about a new fan base not just a banwagon fluke. Let go TIGERS!

Oh I definately think this will start something for the generation that wasnt around in 1984...my 13 yr old watched baseball only every now and then until this season when the Tigers kept winning...it was sooo exciting all summer long! He still hasnt given up on the Lions though , but he lives and breathes football...lol

Maybe they jumped on the bandwagon earlier this year
but I think they'll stay fans for a long time!
I have to admit . . . I'm a bandwagon fan until the end of October.
Then it's back to my Yankees and waiting for spring training! : )
GO TIGERS ! ! ! ! !

Hopefully it will start a new generation.

You're right The Tigers havent been real good over the last 12-15 years...and haven't really given them a chance to cheer.

I grew up loving The Tigers, and it's nice to finally see them win a few ballgames!

They haven't been Tiger fans long, the Tiger attendance rates didn't go up that much. The Tigers drew 2.7 million to Comerica, pretty good, but no great.

The Mets drew 3.5 million and the Yankees 4+. The Red Sox and Cardinals were in that range as well.

There will be some fair weather dans who will turn into hadcore fans after this year. My son born in 87 (last year they made the playoffs) has never seen a GOOD Tiger team. He always cared but this year he fell in love with this team.

I have been watching the Detroit Tigers on and off since 1965 with my grandmother who is a die hard fan of the TIGGERS......remember the first game I ever saw with her back in the late 60s and early 70s.

If and/or when the Tigers begin to falter and settle back into a .500 team (or less), you'll find out who your bandwagon hoppers are.
Trust me, I'm a Royals fan and I'm still goin to the ballpark..

ahhh '76. great year to become a fan. the year of "The Bird." even though the team wasn't able to do much that year, it remains as one of the tiger's greatest seasons because of the magic caused by mark fidrych. he was the first rock star baseball player. i wish his career could have lasted longer than one great season and a few more injured plagued seasons.
