Go on the symantic website and there is a program you can download that will delete all previous norton antivirus
If you don't you could have a problem installing the new as it sees it as a problem.
Do not just use windows add remove because it does not get rid of any embedded software.
I have used the Synantic download and it's very easy to use
Good Luck
Jeff

First make a backup copy of the registry by File > Export and give it a name, save it in a location where you can find it easily. You can restore the registry by choosing the file as File > Import, in case something goes wrong while editing the registry.
when you enter registryEditor. You will see five different sub sections. You have to search using Edit > Find. Type in the name of the software you want to uninstall (Norton, symantec). Then click on search Next. You should remove entries only from the following two sub sections.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
When the search stops at a entry. Read it to confirm that you want to delete it. If in doubt press F3 to skip. To delete right click on the entry and select delete. Press F3 again to search for the next entry.

First search registry for norton, and delete the entries found. Then again search for symantec, and do the same. I hope you are prepared to remove all Norton/Symantec products from your computer.

After editing registry look in C:\program files\ for the folder named symantec and/or norton and delete it.

These two steps ensure that Norton/Symantec is Uninstalled from your computer.
