When other people are allowed to wear symbols of their religion, which were in direct conflict with their stance on unfiroms? They changed the rules so that headscarves and turbans can be worn. Shouldn't it be one rule for all? And if you don't like it, don't work there?

Yes, I agree with the jewellery being banned. But Sikhs are allowed to wear bangles!

Do you know what offends me the most? The crass stupidity of BA! They knew when they changed the rules that this would cause an uproar - so why didn't they say discreet crosses and star of David's could be worn too?

Northern Lad I agree with you. But I think lines are being drawn and stands are being made. I find it quite frightening.

I don't accept that BA should have made uniform allowances full stop.
There should be no public displays of religious persuasion from staff inflicted on the customer who may well be offended. The wearing of any religious symbols should be a private matter and seperate to a professional life (unless you are a priest!)

I think it is absolutely disgusting that she should be treated like that. We are supposed to be a christian country yet when someone tries to wear a symbol of Christianity they are castigated by their employers. These are the same employers that allow other religions to wear as you say turbans and veils. If this were another country we would have to abide by their rules and probably not be allowed to practice christianity so why should we allow it here? It is time that the British people stood up for their rights.

this is just plain crazy - surely we live in a multicultural society
and if women can wear the veil, jews wear star of david, seiks wear turbans then why not a crucifix. This would appear to be PC gone made if you ban one you have to ban all items worn as a show of your faith! Im more in favour of wearing anything you like as long as you are happy - see im wearing my green bobble hat, yellow wellies tartan shorts and purple cardi and am proud to be a member of a group called Weirdo's for Wild Dressing
our place of worship is the Rose and Crown we sing along to anything noisy and metal and we offer prayers to the great god Magners OH Yeah!! BA get it sorted you are going to loose passengers with this daft behaviour

Surely whoever you worship will accept you with out religous symbols wether its a cross or scarve. Not willing to give up these symbols shows that to some extent you worship a symbol? Not the idea of religion. Does the Pope get to the front of the que for his fancy get up? Im sure god does not require a dress code to get into heaven. Or did i miss something at sunday school? If you cant survive without a symbol of your faith. Then what did your faith teach you apart from been weak minded.

although i agree that we live in an era of political correctness gone mad, i have to say that if it was against the uniform rules to wear necklaces over the top of garments, then hell BA are right. unfortunate for them though as it happened to be a crucifix but i do believe that this whole thing has only been blown out of proportion because it WAS.
it's not the company that has created political correctness its religion itself, its all part of living in a country that does try to embrace other cultures, (admittedly we are trying maybe a bit too hard but at least we are trying which is more than i can say about some countries.)
you have to remember that BA are to corporate to believe in god or at least to let him get in there way when it comes to making money and off that point alone they are not racist or politically correct they are meerly machines working for the system and trying to monopolies their particular field

I think its absurd and unfair that the employee was sent home simply for wearing her cross. I agree that if others can wear their religious symbols then why couldn't the BA employee?. There should be a rule for all and I think people should be allowed to wear their religious symbols at work. I don't see the problem in wearing them and if it were up to me I would allow people to wear them as long as they are good employees.

I think the company is within their rights if they have a consistent policy. After all, a Christian who does not wear a crucifix is not considered less of a Christian, unlike what is the case for the headscarf or turban. If the rule was "nothing religious," they run afoul of the law. If, however, it was "no visible jewelry", then they can make that decision.

Damn right disgusting. Surely she should be able to wear a crucifix without being tarnished as being racist. There is far too much of this going on at present.

We have become a soft touch as a nation for all these type innuendos. If people are'nt happy they know where the airports are!!

I think the motives of this woman need to be considered. Apparently she only began wearing a cross after she attended a diversity course. I suspect that this was a planned event in order to gain a significant sum in compensation.

Even if this is the case, it serves BA right for such a ridiculous policy.

I don't like it at all! If it was me, I would be upset but then I would get over it. You wear Christianity in your heart not around your neck. If you can't wear an outside symbol of Christianity, let it be known by your walk (your attitude, conversation, generosity, etc). Jesus didn't go around announcing He was the Christ. He simply lived His life and let others come to the conclusion of who He was; that's why He always asked who do you say I am. And demons already knew who He was before He even said anything.
All that matters is every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus is Lord.

Nuff Said! :)
