What is a Hawaiin Rock Plant? Where can I see one?

At first I thought it was some special bromeliad, but actually I believe it is a company that grows tropical plants on lava rocks:

In a sense you are growing plants hydroponically, without soil, but supported on the lava rock. Curious.
