I've always heard that French people are not very open to other people besides the French. Is that true?

Yes, and my father in law was there. He really had some good times in spite of the war. He also was on the beach in Normandy on the 6thd day.

Come on people lets not get rude to the French. I don't think you can lump all of them into one group just because the government won't help us with Iraq. Wonder how they would feel if they needed us again and we said..."sorry you wouldn't help us".

I put it in French Football because I figured French people would read it and answer. If I put it somewhere general I don't know if there would be any French people that would answer it.

To the french, we did not change our fries to freedom fries...get real...lol. It was just someones idea in ONE American restaurant. We still call them french fries...lol. And to the woman that said she didn't want to explain, and for me to live in ignorance, why do you think I asked this question so I could learn something about the French. I don't dicriminate or say anything rude to anyone. You are probably the reason Americans think that about the French, why don't you stop being arrogant and actually answer the question and maybe with some talking we can resolve issues.

In general, French don't like Americans because they don't like any orders. Americans are trying to impose their way of life to others countries, which is unbearable for French. I mean:
- fast-food comes from USA and is totally in opposition to the French gastronomy rules
- they go on war alone and give part of the bill to Europe by giving mission of reconstruction to NATO organisation.
- they pollute and don't care about consequences
- there are a lot of weapon problems in USA and nobody want to change the damned 2nd amendment (for sure, U.K. will invade USA sooner or later... lol)
- they spy on everybody without respecting privacy
- they don't respect human rights
- they are still using death penalty even against young people
- their way of life produce a lot of fat people
- American work rights don't protect workers but employers.

This is in general. I have spoken to some Americans and some of them are nice but others are really stupid (one of them compare the fact of having two guns to the fact of having two TV... I'm still trying to kill my neighbour with my TV but it's quite heavy and he escapes before I can throw him my TV... lol)

I feel for the French. There's definitely something a little spikey and well, French, about them, but they are very different and take pride in that. What's intolerable is the abuse hurled at them for no apparent reason. 'Cheese Eating Surrender Monkeys' is a phrase used in ignorance just because they a) succumbed to German might in WWII and b) didn't support USA/UK in invading Iraq. Neither did I or most of my nation (UK) but our government weakly did. Doesn't mean I hate Americans though. I wouldn't worry as they probably don't either. Some US restaurants changing the name of French Fries to Freedom Fries (oh dear) probably didn't even slightly bother them as, basically, they really don't tend to give a merde...

I am french and don't want to lose my time to explain why you think bullshit about french people.
I am sorry, but just look at the previous post! Are you sure that it is the french people who are not open? I am not sure that french people would like to spend time writing some bad things about americans or others! And there is stupid people in every countries! And I don't think that you (the americans) can use the Irak war to say that we are not open. Actually a lot of french people really don't care with this. (we were not involved in this war!)
So I think that we shouldn't try to find problem where there is not! there is so much things more terrible and more serious than this "diplomatic problem"!

D'accord. Returnez vous la Statue de la Liberte immediatement, si vous plait.

No, we do not "really hate Americans". We only dislike SOME Americans, and at the present in particular the ones running your country. I'm sure there are also plenty of Americans who feel the same way. But Americans are funny and spend lots of money in France, so its ok. We like to laugh at you, you are amusing.

Hi,
No, I don't think so.
I've been lucky so far as I always met nice and very decent Americans :). I can't answer for all the French but one thing is sure: as far as I'm concerned, I know that there are nice people and stupid ones in each country.
The previous answers prove it.
