My heart is there for you because my boy uses this as well. However, he takes it because he has milk issues.
Little tip for you if you're having problems with expenses on this....if you call them directly and state your case regarding cost, they just might send you some FREE samples. I know a couple that got a free case sent to them. It would at least buy you a little time and put a few dollars back in your pocket.
Another tip for you....we put strawberry syrup (it's inexpensive) in it at the recommendation of the Pediatrician.....makes it more "tasty" and he takes it better.
Congrats on your little one! Aren't children awesome!

OH honey you haven't met the expensive stuff yet.
My baby has been on all the different brands that the grocer has and now is on a prescription formula that cost up to 600 dollars a month (thats about 50 dollars a can depending on where you buy it) its called ellecare and it is hypoallergenic and great for babies with reflux and allergies (my baby has both)
to beat it all, he will be using this formula until he is 2 because of his allergies....
Also colic is a symptom of something else going on, and should be looked into and ruled out that your baby has something else more serious going on.
if there is a possiblitiy go to your local heatlh department and ask about wic, I know its hard to do, but if you work and your husband most couples still qualify these days, unless you all are both doctors.
I am a respiratory therapist and my husband is a paramedic both work full time and still qualify, its a big life saver because we could not afford 600 dollars a month just for formula especially when that is the same amount as our house paymenet.
By the way the ellecare was the only thing that helped him
search for wic and they give you the guidelines to qualify and what to take with you to the health department

I didn't personally have my child on it but a friend of mine put her premature daughter on it because the doctor said that was the best formula for newborns that were premies , as far as the colic i don't think there is a formula that will stop that . You should talk to your doctor about different ways to treat and deal with colic. Good Luck and congratulations on your baby

If he's doing well with Nutramigen, I would leave him on it. Any way, the same dairy proteins are in Similac that are in Enfamil. Taste doesn't matter to a newborn. If he's content drinking it, then he thinks it's tasty.

I made the sacrifice with Nutramigen. My son was a colicky mess for months till I started using Nutramigen and it was like night and day. When he was about 9 months old i weaned him to lactose free and he did fine.

My 6 year old was put on that also, for colic and for digestive problems. The formula worked wonders. And yes it does smell like donkey doo! lol. But WIC paid for it. See if you can qualify for that. It definitely helps.

You may try an organic soy formula. Its called Baby's Only Toddler Formula. The reason it says toddler formula is, because they would like you to breastfeed your baby for the first year. Anyway here is there website: www.naturesone.com. This formula is cheaper then that Enfimal stuff.
