I feel we need more than that in fact total rule & control by the legal majority of citizen. Reduce or elliminate the role of representative government. At minimum subject all public service to being fired quickly for any code of conduct or not serving the public violations etc.

Your question is more of a statement, and a very good one, The American people lost interest in politics because it has been so much corruption in it, and have become so frustrated as it seems no one can con troll our run away elected Representatives,however there is something we can do , if we can convince enough people to vote them out , by first demanding that more people can get on the ballot, stop letting big business and other gov, from financing our political system, and let the gov,pay equal amounts for each candidates cost for his or her campaign, this way the politicians would not be obligated to any one but their constituencies, out law all foreign lobbies, enforce gift policy with prison time for offenders, do away with the party system completely,and I am sure there are other ways to make them be honest Representatives,

YES!!! For democracy to work, people have to take thier civic responsibilities seriously and be engaged and active.

Also, for a government to function well, its citizens need confidence in it.

As I've said in other answers, Jefferson felt that if a population knew all of the facts about candidates, and governmental affairs, the population would choose the best candidate. Is this a reality today, though?
