Sounds like you already know the answer if you are "not fond" of camping. Neither am I, and I made the very empowering decision several years ago to admit to everyone, even my crunchy nature loving friends, that I don't camp. Unless the Ritz Carlton is involved.

Survival for girly girls (like me) if you MUST camp:
-bug spray, unscented soap; leave the perfumes and scented anything at home
-bring your own flashlight with good batteries
-bring lots of moist wipes (kleenex makes a handy portable box of moist wipes now)
-if possible take large manly man with you for protection
-also bring something that can make a really loud noise for scaring off critters and calling for help if you get lost or hurt
-insist on a campfire and bring ingredients for smores
-alcohol is the key to turning many a dull passtime into a roaring good time
-bring your own car and a credit card so if you hate it at 3am you can drive off and get a hotel room (you can also sleep in your car, which I am not ashamed to admit I have done as an alternative to sleeping on the hard ground freezing my a** off!)

Just make sure you are comfortable with the people you are camping with as well as with the clothes you wear, equipment etc. Be prepared for weather conditions. Bring water and a flashlight. Keep it simple and have fun

I hadn't camped for years and against my better judgment had a go earlier this year...its awful every bone in my body ached...the tent was only small so everything was soaked with condensation..even the poor dog...morning couldn't come quick enough...I gave away all the camping gear...its hard work not a holiday...

It's lots of fun IF you have the right mindset. But a bad attitude is guaranteed to ruin the fun for everyone. I can't go anymore because my wife refuses to enjoy the change in lifestyle. I won't make that mistake with her again.

It's fun if you're an outdoorsy type. The negative side is you're constantly dirty and you have to go to the bathroom in substandard conditions. The great part is the fresh air, hikes, CAMPFIRES (my fave), no phone, tv, internet, etc. So I must say the pros outweigh the cons. Have a good time!

Enjoy all of it. Take a comfy sweater and a flashlight. You will be fine.
