Our neighbors say they saw a groundhog digging in our pond, is it possible for the groundhog to dig a hole that will make the pond leak? And if so, how do you fix the hole?

They can leak/seep water. Depending on the age, if, it has been holding water well (Excluding Evaporation) then it should continue to do so. Normally if the area has a good clay substrate then if and I say if a Groundhog was digging around and did cause a leak, the clay would most likely reseal the hole in a short time with a minimal water loss. Areas with a sandy soil may have more problems. Where I live most ponds do well, but, there are some areas depending on the grade like say on a steep hill that the people have built a nice frog hole as it will not hold water. There is a compound people can use to seal ponds, I not sure off the top of my head the name. I found a company in Texas that sale the stuff browsing around. I will try to find it and post the name for information purposes, it kinda cool how it work.
It called; "Sodium Bentonite"; http://www.pondsealer.net/
Also, people have told me that "Sheet Rock" can be used, but, I am not sure, I have never had this problem.

Yes the Groundhog could weaken the dam and depending on how deep could cause a leak. However Muskrats and Beavers are much worse at causing leaks since the burrow into the dam from the water side. Also keep trees off the dam as well.

http://mdc.mo.gov/manag/leaks/ The most recognizable signs of a leaking pond are rapid water level decreases or the water falling below the level expected with normal use. Wet spots and aquatic vegetation (like cattails) below the dam may be good indicators of seepage through the dam or around the drain pipe and may help determine the location of the leak.

fix it from the outdoors. equivalent to repairing a basement leak. Dig a hollow on the outdoors of the pond, you may drain it first of path, hardware shops (like Menards or abode Depot) could have the ideal supplies to apply.
