I would think so as long as you keep the burners up out of the water.you'll need to pick burners that don't rust and like after a storm or windy day use an air hose to blow the whole system dry.

I saw something like this in Japan years ago but just didn't look close enough at how it worked to say more.

as a side note I would look into the burners from a gas fireplace they come in longer sizes than do BBQ ones and are jetted to burn yellow rather than blue.

Churches do it often in lobbies, atriums, etc. Certainly it can "work" as long as both don't come in direct contact. It's not like underwater "welding"

This sounds very interesting. Usually, BBQ grill burners are set up to have blue flames. If that's the effect you want, then that would work fine. There may be a way to adjust the air mix so that the flames are yellow instead of blue. I would love to see photos of your finished project.
