My guess is that neaderthals and homo sapiens would have bred occasionally but apparently their offspring did not continue along the evolutionary trail, at least insofar as we know.

There is a missing link between Neanderthals (Homo Erectus) and Homo Sapiens. The two species are related, more like cousins than like a direct descendant. Gene explosion or gene mutation may have occured somewhere between the ending of the Neanderthals and the appearance of Homo Sapiens.

I think bush is a product of that. No in reality the latest theory is that the neanderthals did not breed with homo sapiens.
But it seems a little hard to believe considering they existed along side of each other for thousands of years.Maybe like horses and donkeys their offspring were sterile.Thus no survivors.

My understanding is that humans have no Neanderthal genetic traits. So that would point against breeding between the two species. Personally, I find that surprising. But the genetic code doesn't lie.
