This is called cupping. It's an ancient Chinese art of healing. It is not really recommended to try for anyone not knowing how it works as it's very easy to get burned or start a fire. They do sell kits now where no fire is involved, just a vacuum pump.
Cupping is used to remove heat from the body and is known to help with eliminating pain usually in the back.

There's a practice done by traditionalist on how to massage? your body: he puts a lighted candle in a glass and
takes out the candle asap, forming a vacuum inside the glass, he then uses a blade to do small slits to your skin ( it could be in your arms, legs, back) immediately, he placed the glass upside down to where the slits were done. the glass will sucked-in the
infected or bad blood... experiencing this rare practice, will make a person to rejuvenate and gives a new vigor to his health!

Cupping is also done in the Middle East. Light a bit of alcohol inside the cup, quickly turn it upside down onto the part of the back that hurts. When the flame goes out a vacuum is formed, bringign the blood to the surface. This really helps with back pain, but you are left with red marks on your back.
