no the purpose it to get different views...and different backgrounds certainly give you a different outlook. Who cares if the best advice comes from someone outside the box you live in?

I agree with luvladyblue. The thing about stupidity, bigotry, and so forth... is that they know no bounds. They infect every age bracket, religion, race, creed, ect. In a lot of questions, religion/age/race/gender are a non-issue, so to answer your question--no, a person shouldn't have to state their religious preference (or other inclinations) unless a question is directed specifically at one of those topics. You can generally tell when someone's pushing an agenda of any kind by what they say (ie; raging about particular morals are indicative of a religious/conservative nut), and the level of someone's intelligence by syntax (ability to write cohesively and in a linear manner).

an answer is an answer, if it works for you and makes sense, who cares who thought of it muslim or buddhist or catholic or wiccan? None of these have a stranglehold on good ideas or even common sense. Same with age.

I think that it should all be open. If someone wants to state religion, they can. If they don't want to, then they shouldn't.
