I would try and avoid a bottle at all costs, because it then becomes routine........
He might just be a bit frightened, i used to sit talking softly to my daughter sitting on the floor next to her cot. Then head out towards the door and when she started crying again i spoke again just say gently softly.........mummy's her honey, mummy is still here now go to sleep............
I have tried this method with both my children and it has worked, its scary on your own in the middle of the night......a night light is another option.

The first answer by Carla is the best advice. He is looking for reassurance that you are there. The less fuss you make about it, the better it will be, but if you have been taking him out of the crib when he wakes up, it will take some time to fix it.
Best of luck.
I know it's so hard when our children do this, our first instinct is to pick them up and cuddle them. I've done it many times myself.

Are you sure it’s the bottle he wants or could it be reassurance that someone is there? My daughter still wakes up three times a night and she is one and a half. Try putting water in the bottle he might decide its not worth waking up for a drink of water, and don’t take him out of his cot that will wake him up further.

He is settling into his biologic clock rhythm, figuring out his days from his nights, food/digestion/pooping and peeing cycle. In short, be patient. Some babies figure this out easier. SOme take a while longer.

it's probably just a phase
my boys were the same
just don't let them get used to it
i used to go into their room, and sooth them, but never took them out of the bed, unless it was obvious that they needed a new nappy
