They are crawling up your house walls to dry out a bit. Even they don't like constantly damp conditions. Can you lessen the moisture in your yard by reducing amount of vegetation? Can you drain the yard better to reduce moisture? Problem with salt is it washes into the soil and is toxic to the soil......really messes up the physical properties. Maybe a fertilizer salt would be better, say ammonium sulfate, at least you'd be eliminating the sodium that is so bad. Another thought is diatomaceous earth, it's tiny crystal structure might, please read might, puncture the animal as it crawls over. I dunno for sure as slugs can just slime over it, IMHO. The same thing with putting sharp shards, such as pottery along the perimeter, some folks say it keeps them from crawling over, once again, I dunno. Anything you cast or spray about will have to be redone after every rain.....
A better choice would be to get the predator snails that attack the garden snail, thus reducing the population.

fill an empty tuna can (or similar) 2/3 full with beer. The slugs are attracted to it and drown once inside. I use it every year and it works wonders.

Get yourself a duck (or goose). Dont feed it for a couple of days and then let him loose. The slugs will be gone within an hour.

-- Keep your house clean, don't leave food laying around. -- Check your produce before bringing it into your house. -- Unpack lugage out side in case you brought some of the critters home with you. -- If you have been working some where that is infested with roaches change the garagem or check your clothing good before going inside. -- Don't bring any lumber into your house before checking it for bugs. Roaches love the smell of lumber and lumber yards are all infested with them.

This really works. Place some saucers of beer around your house and the little buggers acutally drown themselves in the beer.
