Yeah we had the same problem for the last 4 days.
It turns out that it was a virus that redirects to the proxy server for www.eebuy.co.uk
Do a search on your computer/server for a file called wpad.dat
Then delete it.

Alternately uncheck "automatically detect settings" for proxy in Lan Settings in IE

I'm so glad I'm not the only one. I found a workaround from a techie site until a solution arrives. In Internet Options/Connections click LAN Settings. Remove the tick from "Automatically Detect Settings". If you're using a dial up connection, you'll find it in Settings, not LAN Settings. If you find a permanent solution I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know. Molly

I've just installed Explorer7 from Yahoo and this seems to have fixed it. I've reticked the Automatically Detect Settings and it seems all is well.

Check your add-remove programs list in Control Panel. There may be an item installed there that you can simply uninstall to fix IE with little fuss. If that doesn't work, try SpyBot Search and Destroy to remove spyware on your computer. Also, simply get a new browser such as FireFox or Netscape to work around the problem. Lastly, a format + reinstall will surely fix the problem. Good luck!

I have had exactly the same problem, and it is infuriating, as the only ways of getting around the problem seem to be using the internet, which is impossible with this virus! However, I have tried using Spybot and the most up-to-date version of Symantec Anti-virus and have had no luck at all - it appears that the antivirus companies have not yet solved this one. I am currently in contact with spybot, who say that a copy of a spybot scan of my computer will enable them to locate and identify the virus. I will get back to you if I have any luck...

Did you sort this out? We are running Webroot Spysweeper and it hasn't detected anything. It is not just a question of the Homepage being hijacked by eebuy.co.uk, but Internet explorer grinds to a halt.

check your home page settings in internet options in the control panel. You can also install spybot search and destroy from download.com, this is a useful tool for removing spyware and has a setting that will allow you to lock your home page settings, so it can't be hijacked. also from download.com you can install adaware personal se, which is another tool that is useful for removing spyware.

Browser hijacks are indicative of spyware. Run Spy Sweeper or AdAware. Make sure all your anti-virus packages are up to date.
