I watched the movie this weekend and there is a part where John Travolta takes out the plastic wrap and runs around the car with it. Does this have a specific meaning?

According to the trivia on imdb.com, Kenickie, sings the song in the stage version, but Travolta used his "clout" to get to sing it in the movie and this is why the "plastic" scene...

The original stage play had more sexual references than the censors wanted to allow. Among these was the use of plastic wrap as protection. To overcome the censors, there weren't any blatent references but Danny rubs plastic wrap over his crotch during "Greased Lightning".

If you listen to the lyrics you can understand why "plastic" is used...

...You know that ain't s**t when we'll be gettin' lots of tit Greased Lightnin'...

...You are supreme The chicks'll cream For Greased Lightnin'...

...I can get off my rocks You know that I ain't braggin', she's a real p***y wagon Greased Lightnin'...
