totally painless
just gooey with the stuff they smear on you to make the scanner work.
and can be cold.
the only time i have been uncomfortable with one was a full bladder scan and I had to wait ages in the waiting room - it was the full bladder that was uncomfortable - not the scan itself.
Good Luck!

Having an ultrasound, is not bad at all. Depending on what you are having it done for. They lay you down on a xray table. Then they apply a warm gel to your body part that is having the ultrasound. The room is on the dark side but not pitch black. The ultrasound tech. then take an instrument and pushes slightly as she runs it across you. She or he will stop and make notes on the screen of different locations of what she is taking images of. I had to have one because I have a growth on my ovaries. I have also been present while my daughter had 2 of them while she was pregnant. Those ones are so interesting when you get to see the babies face, little hands, feet and so on. It can be very exciting having an ultrasound depending what it is for. If it is for pregnancy they will print off pictures for you to keep, if you ask for them. It does not hurt in anyway the gel is a little sticky but they give you something to wipe with before you get dressed and leave. You will be wearing a hospital issued Johnny while having the ultrasound. Good Luck and Relax it really is an easy procedure.

You have to put on a gown, or they let you expose the area with your clothes on sometimes. Then they put this gel on the area so that the US wand has a conductor and it makes it go smoothly around the area. After that they turn on the ultrasound machine and place the wand on the area. It has a smooth metal plate on it. The doctor or technician will rub the wand over the area and the image shows up on the screen. Depending on the machine it can be very detailed (level 3 ultrasound). The doctor sometimes takes measurments (if a baby is involved) of amniotic fluid, size of baby, etc. The whole thing lasts 5 minutes or less depending on findings. After that you wipe off the gel and you're done! It's a piece of cake!

It probably the easiest test. Depending on what they are looking at, you just lie there, the doctor/technician puts some gel on you, and then rubs over the area with the ultrasound wand. It's not painful. Then you wipe off the gel and you are all done.

an ultrasound is quite simple and painless. a doctor/technician spreads a jelly-like substance on the area(s) to be tested. then he/she moves a wand across the area to examine your internal area, looking for abnormalities. the whole process takes about 5-10 minutes. at the end the gel is wiped off and the doctor usually meets with the patient to discuss his/her findings.
good luck. i hope it's not something serious necessitating you to have the ultrasound.

depends on what type of ultrasound is being done-there are tons of them for every part of the body.
usually involves having a full bladder if you are having a scan to look at your bladder, kidneys, or uterus if you are pregnant. the only unpleasant part of this is the pressure from having to pee!!
it isn't painful at all. the tech will apply a gel (almost like shaving gel) to the area that needs to be scanned to help the camera glide over the area easier. if they are a nice tech-they'll warm the gel up for you so it isn't cold. then they will use a small camera that is c-shaped (almost) to take pictures of the inside of your body. they will record these things for the dr to look at. they are not allowed to tell you what they can see unless you are having the test done to tell what sex your baby is.

It will be an awesome experience. You will be hooked up to a monitor and when they run the scanner over the area it will show an internal xray of your organs, baby or whatever they are looking for. Good luck and hope there aren't two or three of whaterver their looking at.

there is no pain or discomfort at all. They use a cold gel substance on the area (it is pretty chilly) and then go over the area with a 'camera' (smooth and round) applying slight pressure. Nothing to worry about at all.

It is completely painless. They will put some cold gel where they are taking the pictures, and rub a wand around and take pictures, don't worry, it is nothing.
