Yes, I think it's excellent. If only there were more books like it used in schools--instead of just dreary dates and facts.

i read it, but a long time ago now, and i'm intending to re-read it. i remember enjoying it but not completely getting it as i was quite young at the time (hence why i want to re-read it now). however, my favourite jostein gaarder book (and in fact one of my favourite books of all time) is The Solitaire Mystery, so i highly recommend that and also The Ringmaster's Daughter.

Fantastic book you are from Jostein Gaarder
It makes you feel so smart
Indeed you read and understand all basics of Philosophy
this subject seems normally so complex even boring.

Gaarder is one of my favorite authors in the world.
"Sophie" is his most famous novel, very brilliant and well written, but for a easier and more fun read try "The Solitaire Mystery".
He wrote it before Sophie and it is a good first Gaarder to read.

I've read it twice, once when i was 12 or so and I didn't understand a single thing. And when I was 18 I read it again. The ideas are really intersting, though it is quite hard to get through, because it kind of lacks action and it is written in a really silent, shy way, if that is possible to say. I would recommend you the movie, it is really good and interesting too and it catches up with the main ideas of the book.

I'm nearly at the end, but so far i think it is really good, in the sense that it opened my mind to interesting wuestions, however I have to admit that it didn't really keep me hooked, like the silent and the damned by robert wilson for example. However i did like the way it sort of taught the reader about philosophy and was easy to read.

I tried but found it unreadable. It is not a book but a series of Philosophy Lessons, written as if for idiots, or Hallmark Cards.

I absolutely loved it! I can't say I understood it all but it took my mind on a very interesting journey. I plan to revisit it some day so I can try to fully comprehend what it's trying to say!

I started it when I was about 14 but didn't get on with it - if its really as good as you all think it is I may dig it out and try it again!

Thanks.
