Scientists classify organisms in order to understand their characteristics.

characteristics are traits that organisms exhibit. Characteristics can either be physical, like a dog's tail, or they can be a part of a creature's personality. For instance, the fact that cats don't really like water is characteristic of that species.

Why did your mum give you a name? So she would know you from other kids.
If things have names we can study the relationshp between them and watch any changes.
