its possible that you have a disc in the optical drive from which the OS is trying to boot but that is just a guess. if you can access the bios You have to press f1 or 1of the f keys as soon as you switch on you might be able to load the OS from a disc . You might have a jammed hdd in which case banging it gently might release it - sometimes the simple things work - but to be honest it sounds like you have a serious hardware problem and it might be worth your while to take it to a shop and pay £40 for a diagnostic. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful I know what its like to have a system die its not a happy time

Am not very conversate with laptops, but with desktops when that happens this is what I do.
I go to the options window thats when it is booting (press F5 or F8) when it is just booting; just after the setup option, then I go to start windows normally or last know good configuration if not I try boot with command prompt; or
I check if the cable in the CPU is are connected and intact especially the cable that is sending/receiving information to/from the HDD, mostly what it writes when the cable is disconnected.
If both fail I just have to reinstall my windows by booting from the CD.
Good luck because it can exhausting.

either your hard drive has failed or it has become disconnected if you use a hard drive that is removable take it out make sure the contacts are clean and replace it if not you will have to send it off for repair,
new hard drives cost anything from £30 to £60

Your hard drive might be bad...try starting up in Safe Mode and running chkdsk /r.
