Big Fan.
Best murder scene isn't from a good film, but I loved it when Paris Hilton's character got killed in House of Wax.
She was playing a girl called Paige Edwards and was hiding beside a car and when she looked up the killer threw a big metal pole at her so it smashed through both door windows before smashing into her face and poking out the back of her skull.
I think she then fell forwards so it pushed all the way through the back of her head. Nasty.

Although I was born in the 90s I am a horror fanatic, and the 70s is the decade I watch the most films from (both horror and non-horror). However, going off from what someone else said, there were plenty of horror remakes in the 70s and 80s; it isn't just a modern thing. Think about how many renditions of Dracula, Frankenstein, the Mummy, or Wolfman you've seen? The 1980s especially; most films were slashers, and had the common title that included last, house, or street. Unlike what somebody posted, slashers in the 70s came at the tail end of the decade (although there were some certainly present). Most films from the 70s were based around 'Human Atrocities'; no doubt inspired by current events such as the Vietnam war. In fact, I would say a common thread of 70s horror movies were that they were somewhat satirical. The late 60s to mid 70s took part in a 'Renaissance' of sorts where the MPAA loosened restrictions on what Directors could do in movies; moreover there was a high inflation so they were given somewhat "free range". Human Atrocity films such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Hills Have Eyes, or Last House on the Left differ from slashers in that they were more exploitative; depicting constant torture of a specific group of people by non-supernatural humans. That being said in any decade there are outliers to the prevalent genre. Today, we see a lot of paranormal or possession films, but there are other types; you just have to look for them. Like in the 70s, directors that have free range are the ones that work independently, therefore you can find some real unique independent films.

Not the best murder scene, but definately a memorable one.

Ghost Ship, when that cable snaps and it cuts everyone on the deck of the ship in half.
The Hills Have Eyes when the father is burned alive.
I think those two scenes are horrible.

It's not a horror film, but it has to be the best scene as far as reality goes...it was based on true events - American History X - when he tells the black guy to bite the curb, then he proceeds to kick him in the back of the head and it kills him. Pretty sad to think stuff like that used to happen all because of the worst emotion....HATE.

There are so many good ones but the first that sprung to mind was Johnny Depp in "A Nightmare on Elm Street", sucked into the bed and then the blood gushes out

There are so many to choose from. For me the most terrifying death scene came from "The Omen" where the photographer Jennings is decapitated by a sheet of glass. This of course was recently remade and the death in the new one does not beat the original.I won't spoil it just in case you go and see it.
