dr watson is a little program that kick in in case of something going wrong. it collects status information on your system... which programs were running... how much memory used... what program produced the error... things like that, so you can afterwards try to find out what went wrong and how exactly. it is around since Windows 3.1 at least and has never been of ANY help to anyone as far as i know. i didnt even know it was still existent in XP! but today it may just be a pretense to make you allow MS to collect data on your PC...

Dr. watson comes in handy when a program crashes. and it tries to recover the problem with the least damage to other processes and data.
If windows stop responding after a program crashes it might be dr.watson stopped responding. so go to task manager (alt+ctrl+del) and end the process dr.watson

Dr. Watson is used for debugging. It traps errors given by applications and tells you what the error was. It usually doesn't help because the error is in code and if you don't know the code or how to decipher it, you will get no use out of it.
