I know of nothing that repels ants, short of an anteater.

It's best to find the ant colony and eliminate it. Modern traps work well as the food within the trap is taken back to the queen and when she is dead, so dies the colony.

Most, not all, but most chemicals just kill the worker, never reaching the queen.

By the way, ants are ferocious in the garden, protecting aphids from their natural predators so the ants can eat the sticky secretions from the aphids. The more ants in the garden, often the more other pests you may have.

Since it seems that Hedge lasts forever I would say that because it does not rot and soften that ants do not care for it. I have pulled old Hedge post from the ground and found no bug holes in them. I am burning some now that I pulled this year and they may be as old as 100 years. I have seen no bug holes in them and no roaches like you find in oak.

NO...only crysanthamums and cucumbers repel ants. You cna't really grow a hedge with either of those plants.

It depends what type of hedge. I suggest you look on the hede lable. Or you could watch "over the hedge"
