How do I get optimal performance out of my laptop?

So it seems that I am not getting the kind of performance that I used to get out of my laptop. Do I need to defrag it? Do I need to run certain software on it? Is there any freeware that I can get to perform this?

3. Dont allow more application to run on background. Some of them unwantedly occupying more memory and CPU Process.

defragmenting will free up a lot of space a will help it run a lot faster...you've probably been putting a lot more software on it as time rolls on and it probably isnt helping it speed up to much...also you should run some virus scans I reccomend
