It really depends on your neighborhood. Remember that a lot of the people giving out candy are people who have 9-5 jobs so that can't even start until 5:30. Also, the majority of trick-or-treaters are little ones with their parents, parents who want to get them out, get them back in and bathed and to bed so it's usually over by about 9pm tops. Just go out around 530 or so,,, it might be a little slow till after six, then stay as long as it seems like people are still out.... have fun.. be safe!

Technically, Halloween can start at 12:01 am on the 31st, but you'd get a lot of angry people if you rang the bell that early.
Normally, it starts about 6 pm (although many wait for it to get really dark) and goes to about 11 pm

Most people are usually out just after dinner, although when i was in high school, one teen went trick or treating up and down the street we were on while waiting for the bus!!

Officially SUNDOWN but in Modern America it has become an all day event and in most communities kids are encouraged to trick-or-treat after 4 PM.
Peace....

it starts around 3 when the little kids are out of school (they need to go to bed early) and then it ends when the sun comes up the next day.... or at least until everyone runs out of candy! :)
