I never had that happen to my suburban...I blew the engine before it reached that point. If you do ever blo it, look into getting a 400 put into it! It is almost the same cost of a new crate 350 and with the engine mount kit it bolts right up! as far as the problem you have now, I would check the head gasket and maybe try to adjust the fuel injectors. That is the enging that has the classic chevy Carb plus injectors, right? You may need new injectors. My Dad ended up trading his suburban when he needed new injectors and just bought himself something a little nicer, but hey, he had been wanting to trade it for a while. I hope you find the problem!

You didn't answer my questions. Without knowing a little more about it, I can't help you.
Is the check engine light on? Did you change the spark plugs? Does it miss, backfire in the exhaust, through the intake?
Describe what it's doing other than it runs like crap and has a flat spot. And I'll try to help you.

It sounds like you have checked electrical, try fuel system. Plugged fuel filter, poor electrical fuel pump and clogged fuel jets can do this too.

You have probably skipped time. Your timing chain probably needs replacing and the engine timing needs to be reset.
