You need more than a college degree to become a dentist. You also need to go to dental school and earn either a Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.M.S) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.). Both are four-year degrees, and the vast majority of states require one as a requisite for taking the licensure exam.

Basically, you need to go to a solid, relatively well-respected undergraduate college and get some major that will allow you to take the Dental Admission Test (DAT), i.e. something that will teach you biology, chemistry, and organic chemistry. Both Biology and Chemistry are good choices, though there are pre-professional degrees available as well.

As far as good dental colleges, there are 50-odd dental schools in the country, including Puerto Rico, and as a general rule of thumb, the more respected the university, the more respected the dental college. That being said, there are so few spots in any given year that admission is quite competitive, and graduating from any of them will certainly enable you to get a fine job.

All accredited colleges and universities are good. The Course for pre-dentistry is the same as that of pre-med. It is best to major in one of the sciences like chemistry, or biology.
