It's not just the culture of the land, it's the law. If the law of Britian were to abolish covering the head, then your caps would go, even in the winter. No scarves, and cold ears.
No. Other countries shouldn't be, "more open." Why do they have to be lax in their laws for nonresidents, yet punish their citizens for the same infringments? That's highly contradictory and bad form on any government. For you to suggest this, would be discrimination, based on country of origin.
And when moving to another country, why would one have to change their culture? If it's a so called free country, doesn't that mean FREE? If you're not going to live up to your name, don't present yourself as something you're not. Free means the freedom to wear what you want. If you want a cosmopoliton society, that means diversity. Without diversity, you have nothing. This world is lucky that we have at least the little bit of open borders we have left. We're a global society/

The difference is, a woman wearing a veil does not offend or disrespect our culture. Loads of British women wear scarves too.
It's really a one-sided thing. There's nothing ingrained in our societal rules as to why British women dress the way we do, it's not an emotive topic like it is for them. In fact, the way we dress, anything goes- there's no rules. Therefore there's no reason to worry about people who carry on their own way of dressing when they come here (unless their way was butt-naked which is one thing we don't allow in public) because their way of dressing does not clash with ours.
When a clash is presented, then obviously the country's own rules would always win out. But in this instance there is no clash because we have no rules when it comes to women's clothing!! Whereas the other way round, when we visit their country, there is one.
Besides, how could we not allow it? If we banned veils and scarves, then British women would have to give up decorative headscarves as well and it would all be really ridiculous and hostile, because we wouldn't have done it for any "real" reasons, only playground logic.

It's a pity some of these people haven't heard of the old maxim: "When in Rome, do as the Romans do!"
Why do people feel obliged to say "I'm not being racist" before they even mention anything regarding this nonsense with the veils - I couldn't care less if they ARE - it's OUR country and I'm getting pissed off being told what I should or not say "in case it gives offence". SO WHAT if it does? They didn't worry about giving any of US offence on 7/7 did they?

Why can we just not say "you can practice whatever religion you want, wear what ever you wish - so so long as it does not cover your whole face as this is a communication issue and in lots of places a security issue". In the day and age of bank robbers and paedophiles, who knows if that is indeed a woman under there!!!!! Michael Jackson has proven this and so did the terroist last week who evaded the police for months by hiding under a full veil.....

Those other countries you are referring to will let you walk in a bikini, but you will probably be stoned to death or beheaded for doing it, and the offenders will not be prosecuted, because they have been following the wishes of Allah ,because the Koran *the word of allah*, says that women must be covered up after puberty.
Britain is doing nothing wrong in protecting its culture and freedom of all its people, and trying to make sure foreigners are integrated into british culture and not the other way around..

I think you need to respect peoples' customs. Muslim women do not believe in showing their hair or body to cover up from men looking at them in a sexual manner. Honestly, I believe we have allowed the people to be too free with their clothing. It doesn't matter what people wear so long as they do not offend anyone. (like being naked) There shouldn't be a problem with the way people dress. We need to focus on why we can't all get along.

As a woman I would not be allowed to teach in a Saudi Arabian school dressed as I would here - even when I taught in Hong Kong I had to change my whole wardrobe for the school I taught in to hide my shoulders - I didn't complain about it. It's all about respect for the culture and norms of the country you live and work in - I hate it when people confuse this with racism!!!

Why do Orthodox Jewish women wear wigs or hats/scarves to cover their hair?
Why do Pentecostal women wear their long hair up in ''beehives''?
And, on and on. Why do people really care what others do?
You say you dress modestly when visiting some other countries. Why not dress this way all the time? I feel it is the way to dress.

the version is, a woman wearing a veil would not offend or disrespect our custom. a extensive sort of British women people positioned on scarves too. that's extremely a one-sided element. there is not something ingrained in our societal rules as to why British women people dress the way we do, that's not an emotive subject rely like it extremely is for them. in certainty, the way we dress, something is going- there's no rules. for this reason there's no reason to be worrying approximately people who save on their very own way of dressing whilst they arrive here (till their way became butt-bare that's one element we don't enable in public) by way of fact their way of dressing would not conflict with ours. whilst a conflict is provided, then of course the rustic's very own rules could consistently win out. yet in this occasion there's no conflict by way of fact we have not any rules whilst it includes women people's clothing!! while any opposite direction around, as quickly as we bypass to their usa, there is one. besides, how ought to we not enable it? If we banned veils and scarves, then British women people could ought to furnish up ornamental headscarves besides and it may all be extremely ridiculous and detrimental, by way of fact we would not have finished it for any "real" reasons, in basic terms playground good judgment.

I had this exact conversation with my other half yesterday, we agree totally again like not wishing to sound prejudice, but in my view if people are leaving their own countries to settle in another, then they should be accepting the cultures, and this should be taken into consideration when making the decision.
