Alright, so I'm in class alone with a teacher and this guy comes into the room. This guy and I used to be the best of friends but he completely screwed me over for friendship with a girl who he thought was prettier and since she didn't like me, he stopped talking to me. I've made my peace with that - he's a jerk, etc.
Anyway, both me and him, we're very good in this teacher's class but even though I've always thought that he had a lot of respect for both of us, this teacher and he seem to have a closer relationship than the teacher and I have. So it's only us three in the room and I'm working in the corner. Oh, and something else I've got to say is that I'm overweight.
They talk of this and that for a while and start talking about the name Bertha. Then the teacher says, "Bertha, that's a fat woman's name." My heart stopped, literally. Then the guy said "Yeah, fat people disgust me too."
Then the teacher lowered his voice to continue the conversation.

The comment by the other student -- yes, take that personally.

The comment by the teacher -- I doubt if it was directed at you. The fact that the teacher lowered his voice could mean one of two things -- either he was sensitive to the fact that you were in the room (or embarrassed by what he said) and lowered his voice so he wouldn't offend you, or he lowered it to tell the other student that he had crossed the line.

High School is very difficult for everyone. Things do get much better in college for a lot of people that didn't fit in in HS.

Whether it was aimed at you or not, you shouldn't hang around that dumb teacher and the kid that was supposed to be your friend. Your teacher discriminates students because of overweight, WOW what a teacher he must be!!!! If he really were an educator he'd know better than to say that regardless you were there or not! as for that kid, stay away from him, he's probably out to test you and mess you around so stay away from both of them and if they decide to go after you talk to your parents and to Whoever that teacher's boss! DON'T LET THOSE STUPID immature GET THE BEST OF YOU, OR EVEN YOUR TIME!

I agree with Taranto.

It seems the teacher realized he had said something that might upset you as he started talking lightly to the boy.
