Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.getpchealthboost.com
It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

Boot the computer in Safe Mode so that as few things as possible are running in the background and it will run faster. Also disable screen saver and virus scanner, and disconnect from Internet/network.
To get into Safe Mode, during boot up repeatedly press the F8 key until you get a menu screen that offers you Safe Mode as an option. To get out of Safe Mode, simply reboot the PC.

Sounds like you've got some bad sectors on your hard drive. Before you defrag next, do a FULL error check and it will attempt to fix these sectors. If you don't know how, then go to MY COMPUTER and Right-click the C drive and Click PROPERTIES. Then click on TOOLS. Then click on ERROR-CHECKING. Put tics in both boxes and it will check for errors AND fix bad sectors the next time you turn your computer on. good luck :-)

Close all other programs closed while you do so.Disable the Anti virus and screen savers too.
Another reason might too many fragmented files and a slower RAM

i have one my self and it took 24 hours to do mine the fix is pretty easy clean out your cookies and temp files. then run disk clean up after you do that go to search files and folders and do a search on temp. open each file and delete any photos that you see. then run scan disk once more then defagment you need to do this every 90 days to keep it running fast delete cookies and run scan disk and defagment every 3 days. it will make your pc run like a new one.

The best thing for you would be taking backups & formatting your harddisk because not only you have split files but you also have your windows registry and other utilities jumbled up and formatting is easier & wise.
