Im really not happy in my job and have been off work for over a week as I am also suffering with depression which has also been bought on by my work. I am now in a dilemma as I am not looking forward to going back to work but I need to work out what I can do. I have considered temping as an only way out but Im not so sure about this as I have financial commitments but it will give me a chance to sort myself out. Has anybody had any experience of this and what to do? I am desperate. I am based in the UK

what you should do first is take medication for your depression to help ease that. If that doesnt help you should take time to yourself because health comes first. That is what I had did when I was in the situation. Good luck and hope it helps.

See if you can get another week off. Deppression is not gonna get better by being somewhere you don't want to be.
Temping can be a solution but in the end you should be looking at maybe an alternative career? I've never temp'ed in the Uk but temping in Holland you have nowhere near the security you get on a permanent job.
Sorting yourself out as you call it is usually easier said than done. And things tend to get worse before they get better on the whole too.
Look at alternative ways of dealing with the thing you call depression. It might be a chemical imbalance but at the end of the day deppression medication will most likely not treat the root of your deppression.
Try not to let the financial commitments become a millstone around your neck or alternatively should things get worse before they get better please don't bury your head in the sand on the financial side of things.
Wish i had some more constructive advice. Hope you go well. Take care

I was in the same situation last year and left my job and temped until I found another permanent job. It was well worth it because staying in a position where you are unhappy, and is making you sick, is just not worth it. Might be best to talk to the temping agencies first, just to make sure you'll be able to find work easily once you do quit.

Go for it, as through temping you are more than likely to find your next job. It will also give you a feel for working at different companies. There is no point doing a job that makes you unhappy as it will reflect in your work and attitude.

Start applying for new positions now. It is easier to get a job from a job than if you are unemployed.

What is it about your job that depresses you?
You should talk to your manager to see if it can be resolved before you think about moving on.

Good luck.
