There is a difference in the course material and the approach to teaching. The question papers are also different. ICSE is considered a lot tougher than CBSE. While CBSE is more widespread across India, ICSE is limited to few select schools. General perception is ICSE produces higher quality students. I cant comment on either. Its totally subjective.
Personally I would suggest go for CBSE. You will get very good schools and the course material is accepted globally.

There are major differences in both
the syllebus.

The ICSE are supposed to be easy
and they have no prescription
(mandatory) for having Labs with
specific infrastructures, play fields
for the growth of the children. They
are also not following the salary norms
prescribed by the Govt.

Whereas, the CBSE has to get affiliation
with the Central Government. The qualifications
are:

Salary for the teachers to be uniform
throughout the country.
Minimum Pass %ages of the
students are must. If there is a
drop in the pass %age, the affiliation
is withdrawn. There are specific
and mandetory requirements for
various labs in schools. There has
to be large play grounds for hosting
football, hockey and other sports.
The layout of the buildings/classrooms
are defined. Qualifications of the teachers
are uniform, all over.
Regular inspections are done by
school inspectors. Various grants
are given to CBSE schools- like
financial aids.
Because of these reasons, there are
only a few schools in the country.
For example, there is only one
school - Frank Anthony, in Delhi,
which is following ICSC pattern.
The students face a uphill task to
get admission in Colleges.

The syllabi aint very different.
The approach to problem solving (ie the question paper pattern) is somewhat different, though.

Each has it's own merits depending on the competition you are looking forward to. Though I personally would vote for ICSE. At least in my days- about 25 yrs back- most All India competitions(IIT-JEE, AIIMS, etc) had about 25% ppl each from CBSE & ICSE, though the number of ppl competing from CBSE used to be about 25 times more than ICSE ppl.

ICSE each and every of ways. it is a lot extra distinct than cbse. If one compares textual content books, we will see that ICSE covers issues in a miles extra in-intensity way. and do not even get me began on cbse's coverage of the English language. at the same time as they study some short memories in eleventh wide-spread, icse scholars mutually have already studied William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar and could study Shakespeare's Macbeth. That obviously shows the version in wide-spread. ICSE replaced into the first syllabus presented in India and then it replaced into "sophisticated" to variety CBSE. i have been a pupil of icse for those type of years and not in any respect had a probability to remorseful about it. so as it is my opinion....................................
