I'm a HUGE Dirk fan, but i'm gonna say that it depends on how you look at and decide "who's better." Dirk's never been known as a rebounder until this season...Bird was always a great rebounder on both ends of the floor. They have similar 3pt %'s ....both right around 38% career. There's only a 2pt difference in their career scoring averages, so that's fairly the same. Bird's defense was much better than Dirk's (Bird was on the all-defensive team 3 times), and Bird won championships...Dirk hasn't. So until Dirk wins a few championships, wins a few MVP's (Larry won 2 league and 3 NBA Finals MVP's) than all you can really compare with these two guys is their stats.

I'm a big Nowitzki fan, but come on, better than Bird??? no way.
Bird was a better rebounder and a much much much better passer than Nowitzki ever will be. Bird was also a very good team defender, and not sure if Dirk even knows what D is...
In Germany they call him Irk Nowitzki, becasue there is no D in his game, there should be no D in his name.....

I'm sorry there's just no way Dirk will be better than Bird. The biggest thing to define a player is Championships. Bird was part of a dynasty a part of history and that's what he's remembered for. I think Dirk will be remembered as a freaky shooter for his height and a great player but not as one of the NBA's top ten players ever

Every time some big white guy has an ounce of success in the NBA, comparisons to the Bird are inevitable. They're already doing it to Adam Morrison. Nowitzki is talented, but he's not the Bird.

He's definitely got the shooting down but he's not as good of a passer and he's doesn't have that hard nosed mentality as Bird. Bird was also a better leader on and off the court. Norwitzki has a long way to go to catch up to Larry Legend.

Are you kidding me? Bird is better than nowitzki. You obviously don't watch basketball often. Did you see nowitzki getting banged around in FIBA? Give me a break, even Dywane Wade got pwned on his dunk by some europeans.

Kobe is enormously darn on the edge of Jordan. Dirk is unbeivable.. can not belive you may say he would not have one ring whilst comparing him to chook who became on between the greastest communities of all time. i'm sorry i'm a Manning fan i've got dealt with this consistently.. communities win championships.. not gamers..yet i became listening to Colin Cowheard on ESPN radio a pair days in the past he pronounced an stunning factor. He pronounced people think of the old time gamers have been soo large beacuse they we so unique. Jim Brown working example suited working back ever? The dude became a extensive in comparison to gamers back then, and he ran a 4.7... LB's right this moment are swifter than that! So he pronounced positioned the suited defender people could think of of Bob cousy? And positioned him on Lebron..."ain't gonna take place" discover me every physique who can shelter Dirk!!

dirk is a great player...but to say he is about the same as bird is a bit of a stretch....scoring wise they are about on the same level...but in terms of rebounding, passing, defense, and overall intensity bird is on a another level compared to dirk

I think he is only better because he can score inside and outside the paint. He is a great player and should've had the MVP last year.

well they both have a shot out of this world but dirk can also drive a little so that's makes him a better all around player by just a little.
