You just need your passport.. I am going to the Philippines in December to be with my wife, I go every four months and that is all I have needed...But I only stayed for about 3 weeks... you can stay for up to a year but I believe after that you have to always go to the embassy after that to renew I think..

You do need a visa but you automatically get your visa when you land in Philippines, it is stamped in your passport on arrival. This visa gives you about 50 days stay, if staying longer then you need to renew it after that. DON'T LET YOUR VISA RUN OUT AS IT WILL COST YOU DEAR. British People married to a Filipino gets a 1 year visa.

No, just a valid passport. That's if your stay is less than 21 days. A longer stay requires a visa which costs about 22 pounds (UK). That allows for a 3 month stay, single entry.
And as a suggestion, get out of manila as fast as you can. The Philippines are beautiful but Manila is a festering boil. Cebu, Boracay, Bohol are all nice and cheap!

No you do not need a visa.
You will be given 21 days as an initial stay (If by chance you were born here you'd be given a year stay). You can extend for 3 months at a time for upto one year.
However, in practice you can pretty much stay as long as you want. I know a Brit who stayed for 2 years on a 21day tourist stay. Got a nice hefty fine when he flew out, but he came back a month later and got in no problems.

You don't need a visa as long as you would stay for not over 21 days.
