I was induced, it's nothing to be scared of. The only thing to know, which I wish I would have known ahead of time, is that the contractions are fundamentally different than "natural" labour. With regular labour, the contractions follow a pattern - they build and come in waves, so you get kind of prepared for them. With being induced, the contractions just kind of slam into you - they do come hard and sometimes fast. But your doctors will regulate things with pain medication, so don't be concerned. The only reason I tell you this, is if you find it painful, don't let it put you off having another baby.
Hope all goes well!

My baby was born on 41 weeks. The doctor wanted to do induction on me as well. If I can give you advice, walk a lot every day. I walk a lot on the sunday and would have gone for induction on monday morning. Then at 1:15 the morning I went into labour. I heard different stories about being induced, so I'll rather not tell you, I don't know which are the true procedure. I hope your baby show before thursday. Good luck and enjoy the baby!

Well, I wasn't induced. My labor started on it's own but the nurses felt it was going too slowly so they gave me the drug that induces labor. What surprised me was how FAST it progresses once the drug takes effect. It made my labor pains come so fast that it took my breath away. I literally didn't have any time between contractions, which made it hard for me to get my epidural, they don't like to stick you during a contraction. But I got it finally and it was great. My only advice would be that if the pain gets too intense for you, don't feel bad about getting an epidural if you hadn't planned on one. Some women I know feel guilty after-wards about getting the epidural. I didn't though! I had back labor, the epidural was the sweetest relief I ever felt! Good Luck and Congratulations!!!

I was induced with my second child because my doc was scared she would be too big ( my first baby was 9.9 pounds at birth and no pain meds! ).
My advice would be to not stress and scream and fight the contractions, they hurt yes, but screaming and rolling about in pain will only prolong the labor process.
Also, find out if there is a whirl pool avail on your labor floor and USE IT. The water takes the gravity off your belly and adds warmth to the contracting muscles, helping you to relax to aid the dilation process.
I used the whirl pool when I was in labor with my second baby and it cut the labor time in half.
I went in and started on pitocin, and was given some time on that to watch how the baby fared during the contractions and to see what progress I would make on my own.The doc broke my water at about 2 pm when I was only 3 cent dilated and I got into the whirl pool, ( YES you can be in it with your bag of water broken! ), and by 5:40 pm I was ready to push!
If there isn't a whirl pool avail, maybe ask about warm washcloths on the belly to help ease the pain of labor. Having a focal point during a contraction helps as well. I never got an epidural, but my sisters did... so that too is an option for pain control.
Good Luck!!

I was induced with my daughter and although it was something that I didn't want it was inevitable according to my doctor. Was it painful? Yes, for me it was long and painful. Everyone is different, but I would be prepared in case it does take a while. I listened to music and tried to keep myself busy talking or singing or doing crossword puzzles. Don't worry about it too much, as soon as it is over you will get to sleep or eat or whatever it is you most feel like doing and best of all you will have your beautiful new baby. As others said, don't be afraid to get an epidural, thank goodness for his medical miracle and hot baths do help! Best Wishes, labor isn't easy, but it is soooooooooooooooooo worth it.

i dont know your circumstances fro this or the type of induction you are having, but i was induced at 36 weeks due to pre eclampsia and high blood pressure. i was induced by drip. basically i was taken down at lunch time, given a course of anti biotics by drip over an hour for some other problem, had my waters broken which took a couple of hours, then given the stuff to induce me via the drip, i was hooked up to blood pressure machine aswell so unable to move much, also had something srewed in to babys to keep track of his heart rate etc( cant remember what it was called, but wouldnt have let them do it if i had know they actually screwed it into his head). contractions came on fairly fast and very intense pain, was given an epidural to keep blood pressure down and over all was only in labour for about 5 hours maximum.

i was induced with both my children. with me it wasn't too bad at first but as soon as my waters were broken the pain was instant but manageable with gas and air and the longest labour time was 6 1/2 hrs. for me the induction worked first time, its different for everyone. for me it wasn't too bad as i knew for definite i was in labour and i was already at the hospital so i didn't have the stress of thinking do i have to go to the hospital yet and am i going to get there on time and all the other stuff like that and an added bonus was that i had time to get settled in the room before the pains started. just relax and all will go well, good luck!!!

I was induced. I must warn you its pretty uncomfortable when they insert the gel but only for a few moments.
It then took 36 hours until I was 2cm, then they took me down and broke my waters.
Then I was on a drip to make stronger contractions (and more painful with it lol). Then after about 7 hours of 'real' labour my son was born.
Good luck, you'll be fine!

hi congratulations on your baby , i wanted to be induced but my midwife suggested a cervical sweep , i was 8 days late and desperate to give girth. The cervical sweep got labour started really fast (10 mins after i had it done) !!!!!!! Labour was about 8 hours , natural only with gas and air!!!!!!
