we arranged for someone to come round on the weekend about having a new kitchen from moben.

Everything seemed excellent, the free dishwasher, 80% off a cooker and hob. and everything will be fitted within 28 days.

We jumped at the chance of having a moben kitchen fitted before christmas.

But I did a search on moben reviews this morning and all I got back was 1 out 5 ratings.

Is it too late to cancel?

Just an update.

Phoned moben yesterday morning and told them i wanted to cancel. they said they had noted this on our records.

They then phoned me back up asking when I want the kitchen fitted. I TOLD them again and they said I would have to write a letter to cancle (which im doing today)

Not only that we have phoned the bank and told them to block the cheque from being cashed.

Once you have signed up to purchase anything, you have what is known as a 7 day cooling off period. You may be required to confirm the cancellation in writing so do this, and send it via recorded delivery.

It doesn't matter if your contract says you have a cooling off period or not, you are entitled to one by law.

As with all sales of this kind there is a cooling off period which I believe is 28-days but not 100% sure on this amount. Have you paid a deposit on the day? Did you sign a contract? Have you a copy of the contract. If you have take this contract to your local citizens advice bureau and let them check it out for you. Under the consumer protection laws in the UK you have a lot of protection from miss selling and so forth. A simple thing would have been to check out the kitchens before you decided to acquire one, after all you wouldn't have thought about buying a new car without having a look at it or taking it for a test drive would you?

In relation to credit agreements you have a cooling off period in law but i think where you signed the contract dictates how long this is. if you've signed in your own home it's usually longer-say 14 days instead of 7 if you signed in one of their offices. the thinking is if you go into an office you should be more aware than responding to a cold-caller (someone who's come to your home unannounced).
the problem you might have is that you invited them and paid a deposit- you could lose this.
If the deposit was large and you're going to lose it it may be worth having the kitchen done but make sure they do a first class job?
If you really want to cancel don't let them fob you off with the fact the units are custom made, that may be true but you can bet their not done yet. If the kitchen was delayed, like they often are that's the exscuse they would use.
Best of Luck with what you decide to do!!

I worked in a large DIY store that had a Moden concession so i saw the staff and store every day.
I saw the offers, the promotions over months and years.

We started to put up all our POS for the sale starting, all the banners, signs and ticketing and so did Moben.

Huge posters saying this % off, that given free, etc.

The price they charged hadn't changed 1 penny!

Because each house, each job is individually priced it is almost impossible to calculate how much if any you have been given off.

If you were in my shop buying 5litre of Dulux white paint, you can compare that with other stores, but how can you with a product that is specific to them and a fit that is specific to you?

How can you compare the quality of a kitchen with another make anyway? An almost impossible task until you've had it for a year or two.

To be honest, they did have very few complaints and problems, the quality of the units themselves seemed very good and i doubt the pricing structure and how they work is any diffrent to most other kitchen companies of that type.

So despite the dodgy pricing, i think you'll probably not get a fantastic bargain but a reasonable deal and a decent quality kitchen.

Hi there

I've just done exactly the same thing Sunday, gave a guy a cheque for a deposit and having read all the reports wanted to cancel, I have just rang consumer direct, unfortuantly you have no legal 'cooling off' period because you have 'invited' this person into your home. I asked about cancelling the cheque and was advised if I did so they could sue me for breaking the breech of contract! Hope this helps...what a nightmare!

If you bought this product from a salesman who visited your home, and you did not sign the order at HIS office, then by law in the UK you have, I believe, either a 12 or 14 day cooling off period. However act very quickly, phone them and advise that you are cancelling the order and then, most importantly, follow up IMMEDIATELY with a letter of cancellation to them quoting the order number, date and all relevant details. I suggest if you have a way of recording your conversation with them that you do so, but DO advise them that you are recording them, get date and time of call into the recording and also the person's name that you are speaking to and a confirmation that they are working for Moeben. Adaptors to connect tape recorders to phones without special plugs are available usually from Tandy/Radioshack here in the UK or from a phone accessories supplier. If recorded correctly then it can be used as evidence in court should it become neccessary...Good Luck

if you paid a deposit and signed a contract even if they haven't already cashed the cheque you have no chance in cancelling but should they let you dont expect your money back they have no obligation to do so. I know this is not what you wanted to hear but its a fact of life to-day, hard dealing

First, nothing comes free in life, that's the bait!
Can you cancel, check the agreement there may be a cooling off period in which you can cancel without cost, if so follow the given procedure, photocopy the cancellation 'note', get proof of posting. Failing that contact the citizens advice bureau.

Oh Lord, Im sure there must be a 14 day cooling off period. I think Moben are part of the Dolphin bathroom chain and they were a nightmare when I nearly signed up for one. Call them now and cancel, however you may lost the deposit.
