2 light colors and 1 dominate color.
example:
ivory, white and navy blue
or
light gray, white, maroon
this helps show depth and range along with being easy on the eyes.
stay clear of basic red, orange, yellow, green, off shades are fine but primaries sometimes over rule a room specially if in a large piece.

I'd say anyone 3 color combination is cool just as any two color combination, but I'd suggest purple+dark green+orange.I love this combination in clothes and anywhere else!

Chartreuse (that kind of super lime acid green) is still a popular cliche color to denote high tech things, so maybe that. And it goes well with black (nice stark contrast) or a medium blue and white.
One word -- keep your color touch very light. Airy. You want to bowl them over with foreground content, not background treatment or color.
Good luck.

pastel pink, pastel purple, and pastel green. gotta love it!
Or perhaps pink and brown, such a nice match but not used very often.
I like muted tones personally, gives a nice touch without sticking out too much like bright colors would.

Red, white and blue always catches the eye. You could try turquoise, purple and yellow.
