No one would cease to exist if you were gone, so why are we all still here? We all want certain people in our lives, but want and NEED are different, yet don't we all want to be needed?

Oh man lol...ask a question like that and everyone thinks you're about to make a run for the razors. I just meant that NEED is really a stupid word for any relationship because a NEED is something you have to have in order to live. You need air, you need water, and food, but you do not NEED much else really. I do feel needed, don't get me wrong, but I know that no one would die if I weren't here, they would be sad, but they would continue to live.

"You must be a democrat cause talk about a double speak nonsensical question with no real purpose...this takes the cake."
Ole, you must be a Republican, because you've made something so non-political as a philosophical inquiry into a diving board for your own political agenda. Shut up and take your crap to myspace.
I think that the question is valid. Let's break down the statements being made here:
1) Individuals are "here".
2) No one would not exist if an individual was gone. (A fallacy... if an individual no longer exists, then someone is not existing)
3) We have a desire for others in our lives
4) Necessity is different from desire
5) Individuals desire their necessity
Interesting. You ought to take a look at point two, see if you can work that out. Otherwise, you may take a look at some Descartes and some of the work of the moralists, such as MacIntyre and Pojman.
My take on this is that you are questioning the validity of existence, especially in regards to the difference between need and want. I can't think of a stipulation where want and need coincide... bravo. You ought to call up your local community college or speak to a philosophical professional about this question.

Who says we're not needed? We each play a part, whether it's for a short time or a long time in other people's lives. We may bring happiness to someone for 5 minutes or we may teach someone a lesson. We may provide friendship to another or be a loving sister/brother/child to another.
Just because life keeps on going long after we're gone does not mean that we are useless existing here on earth.

Um I think we NEED the physical and mental companion ship of another person. I mean I spent a long time alone no relation ships before I met my husband and I always felt something missing. I love coming home to some one or just walking by in the hall and getting that little quick hug or more.

We are all really needed even if it is only for the smile we give a person on a bus that stops life being so lonely and may change the course of that persons life

come to think of it, you are right! lol!
actually, we all can cope with things such as loss, but if we can choose we would always choose not to lose the person we care about or anything for that matter. but since we can only do so much, the best thing to do is cope. so when a person leaves, the people that he/she left behind will just try to cope and go on with their lives, and try to bring everything back to normal.

Why are we here? Because our mothers gave birth to us as for want and need, these are human characteristics and you can twist opposite characteristics to suit your own needs.
And lastly, what does this have to do with marriage and divorce?

Cause GOD has bigger plans for us that we can't even begin to comprehend.
All of us want to be needed. If you are feeling no one need you, think of GOD. God needs you & wants you to exist so that his masterplan for this world is a success. You are his key ingredient or the turn-key to absolve this world of all its miseries. Cheer up!!!
