You're asking for statistics, but I have no idea whether a statistical study has ever been made on this subject, or even if it would be possible to run one. My personal opinion, however, is that, percentage wise, women would come out on top. The reason being that most women multi-task for most of their lives, ie., busy employment, running a home, being a nursemaid/nanny, a chauffeur, etc., etc. Most men don't have to keep so many balls in the air at the same time!

Generally speaking it's the women. They have a polychronic trait which means that they can be involved in many things at once, and that they find human transactions more important than holding to schedules.

The culture of the men and women also has a great effect on the multitasking capabilities - Asien, African, Latin and Oriental will be better at multitasking than German, Swiss, British and American.

A very nice article was published in Time magazine, March 7, 2005 entitled "The Gender Gap" I'll attempt to summarize.

Males tend to have a better grasp on 3D and spatial perception just because they grow up doing more sports and activites that involve that side of the brain. Women discern emotions and multitasking better because they are brought up to do so. The truth is that we are born the same and it's how we are brought up that makes a differents. (unless there are some genentic problems like A.D.D and so on)

Woman - try cleaning the house, feeding the dogs, eating breakfast, cooking dinner, all with a baby that wants to be entertained! That's without getting groceries, the post, and the baby still wanting to be entertained!

I've always heard that women are the ones who multi-task. Men concentrate on one thing at a time

Women - we can do so much more. Smoking a cigarette and drinking a pint at the same time do not qualify as multitasking.

Ironing, cooking dinner, listening to the kids, checking the homework, shouting at the cat, plus a barrage of other things all at the same time do.

women can do more at one time than men can do, but if a man and woman both focussed on just one thing, the man would do it better. men specialise where as women are a jack of all trades, master of none
