That is because of dominancy.. The male was seen as the dominant.. the bread winner while the woman stays at home
Taking the males last name supppose to symbolixe recognizition of the mans dominancy over the family!
In the olden days it was the exact opposite.. woman had the dominant power.. Cave man woman would even go out to find a man and club him and say he is now mine! Then man tolerated that! Things changed over time.( most of this in the history books) Maybe that's why Christianity was created so that man would have power over woman!

We're not still in the Dark Ages, but women had no say in their lives for how long?.... And besides customs linger even when the mindset behind them is gone. For lots of people the mindset isn't gone. There are still arranged marriages for one thing. And speaking as a Christian woman, the Bible tells us to submit to our husbands and that he is the head of the house. I'm willing to go with that and take his last name, because any guy I marry will understand that as his wife I should be listened to and respected.

because the husband is head of the household. It would take a real sissy to take the woman's name. Right away the woman says she is boss, which isnt the way God intended it to be. It doesnt mean you are his property, but he is suppose to give honor to you and visa versa

Hm....lady....no matter how much we women may progress and become independant, some rules never change. A woman is more complete with a man's support and so is a man.
A family continues by the man's name, cuz it's his blood (semen). Therefore, when you marry a man you become a part of his family. A family name can never continue from a woman cuz tht's not right logically.

You don't have to. Many people use both surnames when they marry. eg. Jones-Smith.
So you can keep your name.
Just because you have his surname doesn't mean that he owns you, no one ever owns anybody else and don't you forget it.
