You and performance mangement are the time waster, The best way to manage people is to provide them with the a clear guide to the job role, motivate them, help them, keep yourself a head of the game and feed that knowledge into your staff. Draw a clear line between friendship and management hut treat them with respect becuase if you don't respect them they won't respect themselves or the job they do. Performance mangement never did anything other than squeeze a couple of extra percent out of people for an very short and limited time

There are people who have done their MASTERS on this subjecty, and still not covered half of it.

The princuiple is simple, performance management says that you willd etermine what you have , what you wnat, how you plan to get there , and then with periodic intervals measure progress.

quality assurance like ISO 9000 is what you need, there is a group certified to do this kind of thing. i am sure you can find them in the Internet.
