Essentially, there isn't a difference. Especially where the boyfriend thing is concerned. You ought to be able to talk to your boyfriend and share the same experiences with your boyfriend that you can with your "normal" friends. Your boyfriend should be an extension of your friends -- if he treats you worse than any of your friends do, then consider how you want that relationship to function.
The recent notions of a "boyfriend" stem from the sociological shift that's occurred where "friends" generally do not have sex, while "boyfriends and girlfriends" do. However, this is not a free pass to getting hot and heavy under the covers... Only have sex with someone you trust, and only with the use of protection until you're ready for such things as pregnancy, the possibility of disease, and long-term commitment.

There is a difference. You don't sit and cuddle to your friend and have him hold you in his arms, and you just don't go up to your friend and kiss him anytime you feel. If he is just your friend then that means he is free to date whoever, but if he is your boyfriend then that means he has made a commitment to you and only you. That is a huge difference between boyfriend and friend.

a boyfriend is someone who can hold your hands.. who will stick by your side in trouble needs, who would answer your calls even is 3am just to hear your voice, if his good boyfriend he remembers the anniversiary and your birthday etc.
and for a friend he is someone who you go out and talk to but you wouldnt hold hands with and walk down the street, but you can remind the way you are always. =)

Some kind of committment to a relationship would suggest a boyfriend. whereas a friend who happens to be a boy, would not object to the first scenario and would not get jealous...

A boyfriend is someone youre romantic with. If you have a boyfriend he is only suppose to be romantic with you and youre only suppose to be romantic with him. that means no kissing/having sex with other men and no kissing/having sex with other women for him. You love each other.
A friend is someone you just hang out with but no romance.

a boyfriend is someone that you date and have an intimate relationship with. eg. kissing....and more. and that person could be a potential life partner....leading to marriage and possibly children
boy-friend is just a male friend, just like a female friend.... shouldn't you already know that?
