It depends on what your are looking for, boils down to your personality and your holiday objectives.

Taba is a very quiet resort near the border with Israel. It is a place where you go if you are looking for relaxation or perhaps spending some quality time with someone. There isn't much that can be done there at night, except a fancy dinner in a restaurant or casino. Tourists there are mostly Israelis, rarely other nationalities.

Sharm on the other hand is more entertaining and wild. Diving, swimming in the morning and wild parties at nights all over the city. It is the place for party animals and those who are heavy into dancing etc. There are also dozens of different restaurants, pubs etc so you do have a choice.

I would vote for Sharm, more choices.

It does depend on what you're looking for. The Taba region encompasses hotels just South of the Egypt-Israel border, down through Taba Heights, and down on towards Nuweiba.

Taba Heights is a developing resort with an almost-finished golf course and nice hotels. There's no town centre as such, but there is a dine-around programme that lets you eat at restaurants in other hotels at no or little extra charge if you're on a half-board. The best thing about Taba Heights is the scenery, which is pretty spectacular - the resort has the Sinai mountain range directly behind it, and the Red Sea in front. So it's very beautiful. It's also a good place to stay if excursions are your thing as Jordan, Israel and Northern Egypt are all in comparatively easy reach. You can dp one or two day trips to Petra, Jerusalem, Dead Sea, St Catherine's Monastery etc. Hotels like the Hyatt Regency and Intercontinental are nice and are generally sold on a half board basis - pricewise more attractive than Sharm.

Taba & Taba Heights are also good for shore diving & snorkelling, and the reefs are in good condition, so ideal place to learn to dive or practise underwater photography. Sharm caters for all levels of divers.

With reference to the comment above about most tourists in Taba being Israeli; this is no longer the case other than on Israeli holidays. There's a good mix of people all over Taba, & Taba Heights in particular has a very high percentage of visitors from the UK.

Sharm is much bigger and busier. There are loads of hotels to choose from, though it would be best to get recommendations from people who have been as there can be a fair bit of variation between 5* and 5*... There's nightclubs, pubs, restaurants etc so no shortage of things to do at night. Plus lots of dive centres. It is a very spread out resort as well. If you want to be close to the action, Naama Bay is best. But Sharks Bay and the Ras Um Sid area are only a short taxi ride away. Again, the tourists are a real mix of nationalities; lots of Europeans.

In Sharm & Taba you can do in-resort activities like waterports, camel safaris etc.

Hi,
I've only been to Taba so can only advise on that and thought it was great. We went at the end of May last year - the weather way beyond hot and our diving course was fantastic. The snorkelling there is also amazing. Taba however is very small so you won't do much else - if you're after combinig city and red sea perhaps Sharm El Sheik is better... Hope the advice is useful!

Sharm no doubt about it. It is so beautiful around sharm i have never been to Taba but i have been to Sharm so many times and it is really nice. The weather in Jan will be slightly cooler than it normally would be later on in the year so i would take light jumpers and jackets for at night. Deffo go to Sharm it has quite places and places for a bit of excitement you really won't regret going.

I've never been to Taba ( I want to go though) but Sharm El Sheik is beautiful, its more of a snorkeling place though so if you don't like snorkeling then go to Marsa Mutrouh. Both are very beautiful, gorgeous blue water smooth tan sand, and lots of activities in the waster like jet skying and speed boat and other cool stuff.. I loved it!

There are more things to do in Sharm than Taba, besides that Sharm is more used to tourists' arrivals. Sharm has more tourists than natives.
