The first response was correct, it is a type of consonant digraph, but known as a rare digraph. The ps combination falls into the same category as kn, gh, rh, and gn. I have also heard them refered to as inarticulated digraphs, since the first consonant is not even pronounced, and the two letters are not blended to creat one sound. Most phonics books simply introduce them as silent letter combinations, so as not to confuse children by calling them digraphs.
