Natural law is what governs the normal activities of man and the environment. It is derived from nature and it happens instantaneosly without intervention by men. For example, marriage between a man and a woman for reproduction is normal as against the marriage between the same sexes where reproduction cannot be consummated.

There are two ways of looking at it.

The first way is man is endowed by his creator with certain inalienable rights. This is just saying that God gave us special rights because we're human beings, and to treat people otherwise is inhuman.

The second way is we as human beings all have being human in common and also we all have basic values that we all wish to adhere to and express. So, in seeing that we all wish to pursue happiness in our own way etc. We make up laws creating equality and various other virtues for the sake of living together harmoniously. So man, by nature of being man, has certain rights.
